As another year comes to an end and the new year approaches, people tend to start making new year’s resolutions. Promising to eat less, work out more, go to church and any other thing they feel as though they didn’t accomplish during the year. Nothing’s wrong with resolutions but instead of lists and empty promises, it’s time for life-changing attitudes to come forth.
Most resolutions last a few weeks then we revert back to our old selves. I’ve heard you have to do something for thirty days in order for it become a habit. So, I make this suggestion to you. Instead of making a laundry list of items that may not be realistic, pick one word and claim what you want for 2013. Something that moves you forward and helps you accomplish the things you truly need and desire in life.
How about Success? Determination. Endurance. Motivation. Each of these words are capable of catapulting you into a better you for 2013 and beyond.
My word for 2013 is PERSEVERANCE. Perseverance is described as a “steady persistence in a course of action, a purpose, a state, etc., especially in spite of difficulties, obstacles, or discouragement.”
I love this word because I can apply it to every aspect of my life. I will persevere at work, at home, in my marriage, with my children, promoting my book, teaching, ministering and even in my relationship with God. In spite of any obstacle I may encounter, I will stay on path. Nothing and no one will stop me from persevering. As the definition states, I will be steady even in the face of obstacles and discouragement. I will win. This word encompasses any and all to-do’s I may list for my life.
What about you? What do you claim? What word embodies your desires from 2013? Whatever it may be, think about what you want from life. It’s time to start living and getting all you deserve. Most days we just go through the motions instead of taking time to live and be happy. There is so much more to life than what we allow ourselves to experience.
If you need a dictionary or thesaurus grab one today. Take time to find out who you are and what you really need out of life. You deserve more than you realize. God has a plan for you but it’s up to you to step out and put that faith into action.
Once you get that word, memorize it and let it become a part of you. Post it around your house, your car, job-so it will be a constant reminder of your path for 2013 and for years to come.
So, again I ask, what’s your word?
